Paul Dankers

Paul Dankers

Music Director
E-mail Paul Dankers

I am the music director of ACS, chosen by the board after the passing of the late founder and director, Ray Adams. I also have a full time job as music and IT director at Snowmass Chapel. My main areas of responsibility are preparing and directing the choir for ACS as well as artistic vision and leadership. I am grateful to have Sue Wasienko on board as the choral manager and a very supportive board. Please direct your questions through the appropriate channels.

I have bachelors and masters degrees in vocal music education and I taught vocal music, theory and composition in the public schools for 8 years before accepting my current roles as music director for Snowmass Chapel and ACS. I hope that you will consider becoming a part of this thriving, inclusive, welcoming, community-minded group of people by singing in the chorus, coming to concerts, and/or donating to support the work that we do. Thanks for visiting our website!

Tamela Kenning

President

I’m Tamela Kenning, the new president of ACS, a singer/actor and recording artist with a 30-year involvement in music education. I’m Kodaly certified and have studied most recently at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, Kodaly Institute Kecskemet, Hungary, and in Urbino Italy. I have taught for the last 25 years and am currently living and teaching in the Glenwood Springs area. I have a Master’s degree in Music Education with an emphasis in the Kodaly Concept.

I have directed choirs and sung in musicals and operas for the last 40 years, ranging from My Fair Lady to Candide, all part of the continuing cycle of acting and learning.

My current endeavor, beyond ACS, teaching privately, and in school, is a passion for inspiring parents and caregivers to sing with their children, explained more thoroughly on the webpage lullababy.me.

Sue Wasienko with Aspen Choral Society

Sue Wasienko

Choir Manager
E-mail Sue Wasienko

I’m Sue Wasienko, a professional freelance musician and educator based in Basalt.  I’m a former public school music teacher, having taught all levels K-12, for 16 years; 8 in New Jersey and 8 in Aspen.  In that public school career, I taught nearly every possible music course, and was music director for numerous musical theatre productions.  I have been auditions chair, choir manager, performance host, and auditions judge at all honor choir levels.  I’ve also conducted and played in many pit orchestras, coached countless vocalists, and managed to tread the boards myself now and again.

Since moving to the Roaring Fork Valley, I have also had an extensive performing career, singing and playing flute or piano with organizations throughout the valley.  I’m currently Assistant Conductor of the Maroon Bel Canto Children’s Chorus and teach private music lessons to flute, piano, and voice students. I’m happy to be choir manager at Aspen Choral Society and to serve the wonderful community that makes up the ensemble.

Brenda Bathke, Aspen Choral Society Boards

Brenda Bathke

Hello! I’m Brenda and I’m a board member since 2014. I’ve been singing with ACS since 1992 and thought it was time to take a turn at serving on the board this year. I’m hoping to combine my respect for this long standing organization and its founder Ray Adams, with the new vision of Paul Dankers and my fellow singers and board members. It’s an exciting time to be part of this organization and hopefully my skills as a business owner and long time Chorale member will be helpful in achieving ACS’s goals.

I have been singing with the Aspen Choral Society since 1996, performing as a chorister, soprano soloist, occasional vocal coach and board member. I was a public school music educator for 33 years and recently retired from the Aspen School District after 20 years as an elementary music specialist and choir director. I currently run the Aspen Piano Academy, a piano studio offering lessons to local children and adults.
